2009 Land Use Planning Class
How does Oregon’s land use planning system work? This was the fundamental question for a class held on November 6th 2009. Organized by HRVRC with funding from the McGraw Family Foundation, nearly 40 attendees attended the six-hour class taught by Mitch Rohse, a planning consultant with 30+ years of experience.

Green Drinks/Inauguration Night
Over 150 people scrunched into Double Mountain Brewery for HRVRC & Columbia Gorge Earth Center’s Inauguration night party & "Green Drinks" The two groups used the momentum of Obama’s inauguration a catalyst to invigorate a discussion centered around citizen involvement in HR sustainability issues. Newly elected HR Mayor Arthur Babitz led the discussion.
2008 Country Dance & Pie Social
HRVRC held the first "Country Dance & Pie Social" at the Mount Hood Town Hall on December 6th, 2008. Over 100 people attended and helped raise $2,300 to HRVRC continue to protect farm and forestland in Hood River County.

Legislative Lobby Training
HRVRC aided 1000 Friends of Oregon in hosting a two-hour legislative lobby training at the Hood River Library on December 11th.
Sustainable Communities Project
In fall of 2008, HRVRC worked with Hood River High School to teach 130 students about tools and strategies being used in their own back yard to protect open space, water and encourage livability in Hood River County.
Annual Meeting + Wild & Scenic Film Festival
Each year, HRVRC hosts an annual meeting in late summer for all members and interested citizens. In 2008, the annual meeting was held at Columbia Center for the Arts. Over 40 people attended a one-hour meeting. Peter Cornelison was elected president and Attendees had the opportunity to learn about and discuss priorities for the upcoming year including the formation of a bike & trail committee, reform of HRVRC's monitoring committee and the future of the Mount Hood wilderness bill.
Following the annual meeting, HRVRC hosted the Wild & Scenic Film Festival with Crag Law Center. Night one was farm films; night two was adventure films.
Hood River R.O.V. (Ride-around Our Valley
In 2008 and 2009, HRVRC hosted a free, organized ride in May. We plan on organizing another ride spring 2010. Below are pictures from the 2008 ride when approximately 30 riders attended.
Measure 37 Forums
HRVRC held four public forums between July 2006 and December 2007 to educate citizens about Measure 37's possible impacts on Oregon and the Hood River Valley. Forums included Representative Brian Clem (D-Salem) speaking about Measure 49; a creative and historical Tom McCall chautauqua; and a small town-hall meeting at the Hood River Library discussing Measure 37 amongst over 60 citizens. HRVRC ensured diverse opinions by inviting all Measure 37 claimants in the valley to this forum.
