Livable Communities

HRVRC works with citizens, policy makers, and other local and state groups to improve quality of life in the urban communities of the Hood River Valley. We do this through education, advocacy and monitoring of land use processes and procedures.

  • Transportation Options & Climate Change As communities in Hood River and the Gorge grow and diversify, we will need transportation options that connect not only within our counties, but between them. One of HRVRC keystone projects over the last year has been to elevate the need for providing transportation options over the Hood River Bridge. Over 3.5 million trips are made over the bridge each year. No bicycle options or public transportation options exist.

  • Dense Communities HRVRC encourages vibrant, dense, livable communities where transportation options like walking, biking and public transportation are viable options. We do this by working to maintain a tight Urban Growth Boundary and limiting policies that promote sprawl.

  • Educational Events HRVRC hosts educational forums, sends e-newsletters/paper newsletters regarding bold issues that have a high likelihood of impacting the livability of Hood River's communities.
